PROJECT TITLE:
The Spanish Second Republic, the Civil War and its Consequences in the CCHS’ Library’s Photographic Archive.
PROJECT SUMMARY. Description of activities and objectives:
In 2019 the 80 th anniversary of the beginning of the Spanish Republican exile will be celebrated with the organization of an international conference by the CSIC’s Instituto de Historia and the Instituto de Filosofía between 30 th September and 3 rd October. This stay offers a project which is focused on the Photographic Archive conserved in the CCHS’s library. With the assistance of the advisor, the student will work with the photographs in order to propose a small project exhibition which could be shown in the space next to the conference room.

I have actually been doing two different things. For the first five weeks I was researching Spain’s involvement in the two World’s Fairs during the Spanish Civil War. It was a very self directed project, and I was figuring out my more focused question close to the end of the five weeks. I essentially wanted to look into how the end of the war and preparations for the New York Worlds fair impacted artists commissioned for it.
With my supervisor we got onto the topic of the photographic archives, and how that was something I was very interested in, adding in information from the physical photos. It was really interesting and fits in with my career goals.
